Bulldogs Back Above .500 with 71-65 Win over Cincinnati-Clermont

DANVILLE, Ky. - Adrian College men's basketball team finished in third place at the Papa John's/Country Hearth Inn Tournament hosted by Centre College after a 71-65 triumph over Cincinnati-Clermont in the consolation game on Saturday. Both Ryan Gallus and Lamar Cardenas played very well in the tournament and each scored 17 points on Saturday. Gallus was 7-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-6 from the arc. He also did an exceptional job on the glass with six offensive boards and eight total boards. Cardenas was an indentical 7-of-13 from the floor and also had five assists and a season-high six steals in 30 minutes.

The Bulldogs led 39-31 at the break and built their lead to 49-35 at the 15:01 mark on a Gallus triple. The Cougars then began to chip away at the lead getting the deficit down to 54-47 at the 11:21 mark on a Stefan Dunn layup. Cincinnati-Clermont tied the game at 56-56 at the 8:21 mark on another Dunn lay-in but Adrian would not give up the lead as they increased the lead to 65-61 at the 2:34 mark. Desmond Young hit a jumper at the 1:27 mark to give the Bulldogs a 67-61 lead. The Cougars missed their final six three-point attempts late as Adrian kept them away from making another serious run in the final minutes.

Adrian shot 43.8 percent for the game and were 8-of-24 from the arc. AC got to the free throw line 12 times and made seven for a 58.3 percentage. Adrian had 20 offensive rebounds as Ian Weber grabbed 11 boards and six offensive caroms. He also chipped in eight points in 33 minutes. Young netted 13 points and also had six boards and four assists in 37 minutes.
