Oct. 21, 2008

Final Stats

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Lady Bulldog volleyball team just cannot seem to gain any momentum as their season draws to a close dropping a 3-2 decision to Alma after leading 2-1 heading into the fourth set. The Bulldogs got off to slow starts in both of those sets and could not stage a comeback.

The Bulldogs trailed 23-18 in the first set before scoring the next seven points on the serve of Samantha Mercy to win 25-23. Alma had a couple of bad sets which allowed Adrian back into the set. Alma called timeout up 23-22 but Adrian got a kill from Rebecca Tincknell to tie the set at 23-23. The Bulldogs blocked Sarah Scow on set point as Holly Pellegrin and Tincknell up Adrian ahead 1-0.

Adrian scored the first three points of the second set but quickly fell down 10-5 on back-to-back service aces by Kim Gillhespy. Adrian got to within 12-11 on a kill by Jenny Carlson, but could not gain a lead as Alma went ahead 22-13 on six straight serves from Stephanie Bradshaw. Alma won the second set 25-20.

Adrian went down 5-0 to start the fourth set and fifth set which proved to be a difference maker especially in the fifth set which is played to 15 points. Katie Porter served the first five points of the deciding set and Adrian could not regroup. The Bulldogs got to within 13-8 on a kill by Carlson but a Pellegrin service error and Beth Caldwell kill ended the match.
