Bulldogs Fall At The Buzzer 66-65

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker in the final game of the John Dawson Tournament. Desmond Young led all scores with 28 points.

Trevor Halter of Marietta hit back-to-back three pointers to spark an early 6-0 lead for the Pioneers. Things got worse for Adrian when Young committed his second foul early in the first half. Head coach Buck Riley decided to leave Young in the game despite having two fouls.

Adrian was forced to call a timeout four minutes into the game as the Pioneers stretched their lead to 13-6.

Michael Staley gave Adrian their first lead of the game with a three pointer. The Bulldogs went ahead 18-17, but the Pioneers came back to tie the game at 22-22

Brett Asher played well in the first half. Asher recorded two consecutive blocks and then scored a three point play for the Bulldogs towards the end of the first half. Asher scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Desmond Young had a game-high 11 points at halftime, and Matt Wayne added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs started the second half with a one point lead, but they would have to play without Dwight VanHoesen who was sidelined due to an injury.

Adrian held on to their one point lead throughout the first four minutes of the second half.

Desmond Young hit a big three pointer with the shot clock running down to give Adrian a 55-47 lead midway through the second half.

Adrian had a 10 point lead with five minutes to go, but that lead would be cut to six points with two minutes remaining in the game.

Rydell Chrisman of Marietta pulled the Pioneers within two points of Adrian. He went to the free throw line and connected on two free throws. Chrisman also went on to steal a pass and make a lay-up to make the score 65-63.

Adrian had possession of the ball with 30 second left in the game, but they were unable to get a shot off, and the Pioneers got the ball down two points with 18 seconds remaining.

Marietta set up a play that got Isaiah Creasap an open look from the three point line, and he came through in the clutch to give the Pioneers the 66-65 victory.

Young went 10-for-20 from the field and ended the game with 28 points. Asher and Wayne each scored 14 for the Bulldogs. Staley led the team with 11 assists and added seven points.
