The Bulldog baseball team did not have a letdown on the second game of their spring trip after a season-opening win over #6 Emory with a 9-5 win over Oglethorpe improving to 2-0 in the Peach State. Nick Sarkissian had a brilliant start going seven innings and allowing seven hits and one earned run while striking out two batters. Sarkissian threw 104 pitches before giving way to Tim Parent who threw the last two innings. Parent gave up two earned runs and struck out one.
Adrian was all over Oglethorpe pitching in the top of the first scoring six times on four hits while the host school committed two costly errors. The first three batters reached to load the bases before Brett Miskokomon singled to left field scoring Todd Meyers and Kris Powell for a 2-0 lead. Bobby Rickstad scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. Jake Cappelletty singled to right field for an RBI which scored Miskokomon from third to make it 4-0. Jaymz Zokoe singled to center field which scored Steve Vanderheyden who walked earlier in the inning. The final run of the inning came home on a muffed throw by the second baseman scoring Cappelletty as Adrian sent 10 hitters to the plate.
Oglethorpe scored one run in the bottom of the first before Adrian added two more runs in the top of the fourth to make it 8-1. The scoring in the inning came on a double steal as Meyers went home and Powell swiped second and then Miskokomon singled home Powell with an RBI single to left field.
Oglethorpe scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of errors by the Bulldogs and then added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 8-5. AC added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Bobby Rickstad led off with a single. Chad Meyer then delivered a pinch hit single to left center which sent Rickstad to third. Aaron Hakola entered the game as a pinch hitter and hit a sacrifice fly to center which scored Rickstad with the ninth run of the game for Adrian.
Adrian totaled 10 hits as Miskokomon had the lone multi-hit effort going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Meyers, Powell and Rickstad each scored two runs and collected one hit. Vanderheyden reached base three times with a hit and two walks in four plate appearances.
