GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -
The Adrian men's basketball team had a hard time putting points on the board on Saturday afternoon against a stingy Calvin defense in a 63-48 loss to the Knights. Adrian had one bright spot in junior Desmond Young who finished with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Young did however have a difficult time handling the ball with a season-high seven turnovers.
Freshman Dwight VanHoesen finished as the team's next highest scorer with nine points on 3-of-8 shooting in 36 minutes. Adrian's defense actually stepped it up a notch holding Calvin to 44.8 percent shooting. Calvin committed 19 turnovers and were just 5-of-19 from the arc. Derek Griffin led Calvin with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting.
The Knights started out the first eight minutes on a 16-6 run and led 35-21 at halftime. Adrian could not get the lead below double digits in the second half as Calvin had an answer when Adrian found the bottom of the net. The Bulldogs have dropped their second in a row and sits at 9-11 overall and 4-6 in the MIAA.
