Head Coach Craig Rainey would have liked to have taken two wins from Tri-State on Wednesday but the one the Bulldogs did get put the head coach at exactly 300 wins at the helm of the baseball program. Adrian won game one, 3-1, before falling 4-2 in game two from Jannen Field.
The pitching combo of Nick Sarkissian and Alex Webster kept the Thunder off the scoreboard with the exception of one run in the third inning in game one. Sarkissian threw 5.2 innings and allowed eight hits and one earned run while striking out four and walking three batters. He improved to 3-1 with a 2.11 ERA this season in four starts. Webster hurled the final four outs in order to record his first save of 2008. He has yet to walk a batter in 22.1 innings this season.
Alex Cowart, Bobby Rickstad and Jake Cappelletty each drove in a run for the Bulldogs who scored once in the first, fifth and seventh innings. Cappelletty singled home a run in the first, Rickstad solo homered in the fifth and Cowart singled home a run in the seventh. Adrian had three runs on six hits with no errors. Tri-State had one run on eight hits and committed two errors. Cappelletty and Kris Powell were each 2-of-3 at the plate in game one.
Ryan Domschott got roughed up in his first start of the season going 2.2 innings and allowing four hits and three earned runs before giving way to Tim Parent in the third inning. Domschott walked three and struck out five of the 14 batters he faced. Parent threw 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit and one earned run while walking two and striking out two. Matt Tuttle worked the sixth inning inheriting the bases loaded with no outs. He allowed a sacrifice fly which was charged to Parent and struck out Adam Bowden for the third out to end the inning.
Tri-State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings as Adrian scored lone runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Todd Meyers drove in both runs and was 1-of-4 at the plate in game two. He had an RBI double to left scoring Powell in the fifth and hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Chad Meyer in the seventh. Adrian had just two hits through six innings and finished game two with four hits off Thunder pitchers Jason Buck and Adam Shiltz. Adrian is now 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA and will entertain Tri-State on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
