Youth Movement Leads to Doubleheader Sweep at Alma

ALMA, Mich. - The season is winding down and the young players for the Bulldog baseball team are heating up as Adrian won a pair of games at Alma and have now claimed victory in eight of their last nine games. In the process, Adrian remains in first place in the MIAA with just two more games against Alma at home left in the regular season. These two teams will play tomorrow at Nicolay Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Game one went to the 'Dogs by the score of 7-4. Freshman Nate Sarkissian and sophomore Andrew Anderson were the hitting heroes with two hits a piece. Sarkissian went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Anderson batted 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Nick Vandike (4-0) made his first start of the year after making 14 appearances out of the bullpen. He did very well going five innings while allowing four hits and two earned runs. He also walked and struck out four improving his ERA to 2.31 in 23.1 innings this season. Tim Parent went 1.2 innings and gave up one earned run. He allowed two hits and has a 2.75 ERA this season.

The Bulldogs won 10-3 in the nightcap as Nick Sarkissian went the distance on the mound (5-1) allowing eight hits and three earned runs. Todd Meyers batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and now has 24 RBI this season. Nate Sarkissian went 2-for-3 with two runs and his first triple of the year. Sarkissian is now batting .500 (18-for-36) this year. Anderson went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs in the ninth spot. Leftfielder Alex Cowart hit his 10th double of the season and drove in four runs. He now has a team-leading 41 RBI this season. Steve Vanderheyden tied for the team-lead with his sixth home run of the year and drove in two runs. The Bulldogs had a big six-run third inning which propelled them to victory.

Notes:The Bulldogs are 21-5 in the MIAA which is the best conference record under Craig Rainey...Adrian is batting .314 overall as a team in 38 games...The Bulldogs have out-homered their opponent, 23-7, this year...The team might also want to invest in body armor as they have been hit by a pitch 55 times.
