The Adrian College men's basketball team suffered their worst loss of the season on Wednesday night when they were defeated 87-56 to Calvin College. This marks the first conference loss of the season for Adrian, while Calvin improves to a perfect 3-0.
The Bulldogs fell behind in the first half due to poor shooting. Adrian shot 36 percent (9-for-25) from the floor which allowed the Knights to open up a 37-22 lead at halftime. Matt Wayne led Adrian in scoring through the first 20 minutes of action with six points. Michael Staley scored three points, dished out three assists, and collected three rebounds for the Bulldogs. The Knights were able to hold Desmond Young to 2-of-6 shooting.
Calvin's Dustin Smith led all scores through the first half with 10. Caleb Veldhouse added nine points for the Knights, while John Mantel controlled the paint with seven rebounds.
Adrian could not get on track to make a comeback in the second half. Young found a groove, and ended with a game-high 26 points. He was the only Bulldog that scored in double figures.
The Bulldogs will return to action on January 17th with a match-up at Alma.
