This Friday was not the 13th but the number 13 had a presence as the men's hockey team won their 13th straight game with a 13-1 rout of Minnesota-Crookston at the Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs set a season-high for goals scored in a game and went over 10 goals for the second time this season. The defense was looking for their third straight shutout but the Golden Eagles scored with 4:33 left in the third. The goal snapped a shutout streak of 178:46 dating back to the Saint John's game.
Sophomore Shawn Skelly came out of the locker room with a scoring touch as he quickly put the Bulldogs up 2-0 with a power play goal at 8:59 and an even strength goal at 12:40. Skelly now has a team-high 18 goals and also assisted three times earning the first star of the game. Sophomore Jeremy Klaver (16:24, PPG) and sophomore Joel Workman (18:14, EVG) added goals in the first period for a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Sophomore Brad Houston broke into the scoring column with his ninth goal of the season at 13:43 of the second period. Junior Kyle Frieday scored the first of his two goals at 18:48 at even strength to give Adrian a 6-0 lead after two periods.
The Bulldogs erupted with seven goals in the third period and scored the first four goals in a span of 4:01 to begin the stanza. Freshman Mike Leone got his second goal as a Bulldog at 1:38 followed by sophomore Mike Dahlinger's eighth goal of the season at 2:04. Frieday added his fourth goal of the year at 3:39 and Workman's second goal of the night at 4:01 made it 10-0.
Sophomore Mark Gertsakis had a multi-goal game for the first time this season with tallies at 8:08 and 18:05 of the third. His second goal came on the power play as the Bulldogs went 3-of-4 with the advantage. UM-Crookston ended the game 0-of-4 on the power play and Adrian outshot the Golden Eagles, 53-14. Adrian (14-1-1, 11-0 MCHA) will host Crookston again tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
