The men's hockey team focused on a key non-conference game for their first action of 2009 as they traveled to St. John's (Minn.) and claimed a 5-2 win over the Johnnies. The Bulldogs have now won 10 straight.
Kyle Watson led Adrian with a goal and assist as five different players tallied a goal for the Bulldogs (11-1-1). Watson scored at 14:01 of the opening period with an assist from Joel Workman for his first of the season. Watson later assisted on the final goal for Adrian which was a short-handed tally by Mike Towns at the 11:39 mark of the third period.
Adrian built a 4-0 lead after two periods scoring three times in the middle stanza. Eric Miller scored his 10th of the season on the power play with assists from Shawn Skelly and Adam Krug at 15:13. Brad Houston scored the eventual game-winner with assists from Kyle Frieday and Reed Renaud at 16:58 to give AC a 3-0 lead. Mike Dahlinger added a power play goal at 18:22 for his seventh of the year to give AC a 4-0 lead. Mike Leone got an assist on the Dahlinger goal in his first game with the team.
Adrian outshot St. John's, 38-25, as Brad Fogal made 23 saves in net for the Bulldogs. Both team were 2-of-6 on the power play and there were a total of 27 penalties for 62 minutes. Miller was whistled for 20 minutes. Both teams had 20 penalties in the third period alone.
