Final Stats
ADRIAN, Mich. - The volleyball team managed to
win the first set on Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup
against Bluffton but in the end it was the Beavers who won a 3-1
decision over the Bulldogs. Adrian (5-19) put together a complete
first set winning 25-20. They scored the first three points of the
set and trailed just once at 5-4. The turning point happened at
13-11 in favor of Adrian as they served four straight points. Courtney
Sellers served the points and Bluffton helped out with three
attack errors. The Bulldogs never let Bluffton back in the set as
Sellers had a pair of kills in the final three points for
Adrian.
Bluffton claimed a 25-20 win in the second set as both teams had
a chance to put it out with Bluffton leading 19-18 after a Sellers
kill. The Beavers won the next two points and then extended their
lead to 23-19 after an Allison Streicher kill and Valerie Smith
attack error. Nicole Wood got Bluffton to 24-20 and Julie Smiertka hit
a ball out of bounds to end the set.
Adrian hung around at 10-8 in the third set but then fell apart
and could not regain their composure. Jenna Eshleman served three
points to get to 14-8. Adrian scored three straight points to climb
back to 14-11 but the Beavers won the next four points as Adrian
hit four balls into the net or out of bounds. The Bulldogs had six
straight attack errors and Wood ended the set at 25-13 on a
kill.
The teams were tied at 12-12 in the final set before Bluffton
won five of the next six points to take a 20-14 lead. After a
timeout, Adrian won the next two points as Laura Heinz and
Sellers each had a kill. Eshleman and Shauna Rowland each had a
kill to push the lead to 24-19 and Rebecca
Tincknell had an attack error to end the match at 25-20 in the
fourth.
Adrian had 42 kills with 14 kills coming in the second set. The
Bulldogs hit .093 for the match. Sellers and Smith led the team
with 10 kills each. Heinz had seven kills and hit .667 for the

Taylor led Adrian with 20 digs. Katie Macfarlan
led the team with 20 assists and also had 13 digs. Sellers had 14
digs and one block assist. The team had 10 total blocks as Stephanie
Holloman had five block assists.
