Burst in the First Gives Adrian a 6-2 Win over St. John's

ADRIAN, Mich. - The men's hockey team played their first game in the Hackett Builders Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday night and used a hot first period to post a 6-2 win over St. John's (Minn.) University. The Bulldogs scored their five goals in a span of 16:32 of the first.

Kyle Frieday used his hard and accurate slapshot to give Adrian a 1-0 lead at the 2:08 mark of the first at even strength with assists from Kyle Watson and Bobby Hineman. St. John's tied the game at 1-1 at 5:21 also at even strength as Jake Koehler tipped in a shot in front of the net past Brad Fogal with assists from Brent Brodersen and Dylan Decker.

Jeremy Klaver fired a blast from the point at the 11:42 mark to break the tie on the power play which Adrian used to its advantage all night going 3-of-4. Zach Graham and Eric Miller were credited with assists on the Klaver goal. The Bulldogs needed very little time to extend their lead to 3-1. It took just 12 seconds for Brad Houston to beat goaltender Tony Civello for his eighth goal of the season with assists from Mike Dahlinger and Quinn Waller.

Adrian kept their foot on the pedal as Sam Kuzyk scored back-to-back goals at 13:59 and 18:30 to close out the period. Kuzyk's ninth and 10th goals of the season gives him the team lead. Dahlinger was given his second assist of the night on Kuzyk's first goal along with Chris Stansik. Houston and Shawn Skelly were given a helper on Kuzyk's second goal.

St. John's scored the lone goal of the second on the power play as Gabriel Harren scored his fourth of the year from the right wing off a rebound at 11:22. SJU was 1-of-7 on the man advantage for the game. Skelly scored the lone goal of the third at 5:15 on the power play for his ninth score of the season. Waller and Miller were given assists on the 5-on-4.

Fogal had a solid night in net with 31 saves including 13 in the second period. He improves to 7-0 this season and 54-3-1 during his career between the pipes. Civello made 25 saves for the Johnnies. Adrian will host Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the tournament. CMM lost 3-2 to Buffalo State in the earlier game on Friday.
