The free throw line was a safe haven for the Bulldog men's basketball team on Tuesday night as they got above the .500 mark (4-3) with a 70-57 non-conference road win at Marietta College. Adrian was 25-of-30 (83.3%) at the charity stripe for the game making a season-high at the foul line.
The Pioneers scored the first six points of the game as Adrian called a timeout to stop the early momentum. The Bulldogs scored eight of the next 10 points to tie the game at 8-8 as Matt Wayne hit a layup at the 15:06 mark. The teams kept things close over the next three minutes and then Jovon Mosley hit a three-pointer at the 10:52 mark to give AC a 21-15 lead.
Adrian continued to put the pressure on the Pioneers as Eric Voelz hit a jumper at the 4:45 mark to give Adrian a 29-21 lead. The last five minutes of the first half saw the Bulldogs keep their lead and actually led 34-25 at the break for their largest lead of the game as Mosley hit a shot with one second left in the opening half.
With the Bulldogs leading 42-39 at the 12:58 mark of the second half, the team went on a 16-0 run over the next four minutes to take command of the contest. The run included three-pointers by Wes Reed and Mosley and Michael Staley scored four points during the run as Adrian led 58-39 at the 7:35 mark. Marietta cut the lead down to nine from that point but could not make a serious threat.
Staley led Adrian with 16 points going 4-of-10 from the field and 8-of-8 at the line. Reed scored 13 points and connected on three triples off the bench in 26 minutes. Mosley scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight boards in 24 minutes. The Bulldogs shot 41.7 percent (20-of-48) from the floor shooting 10-of-24 in each half. The team was also 5-of-14 (35.7%) from the arc.
