ADRIAN, Mich. -
The Adrian College men's basketball team defeated Alma College 77-62 on Wednesday night at the Merillat Cetner. The Bulldogs used a total team effort to pick up their seventh win of the season. All five starters scored in double figures for Adrian. Desmond Young led the way with 18 points and four rebounds.
Adrian got off to a hot start as they hit their first nine shots of the game to open up a 24-7 lead. A three pointer by Dwight VanHoesen gave the Bulldogs their biggest lead of the first half at 29-10. Alma climbed back into the game by going on an 11-0 run to close the gap to eight points. Jordan Redditt kept the Scots in the game by scoring 15 points in the first half.
Adrian took a 39-33 lead into halftime. Michael Staley led Adrian with 11 points and three assists in the first half. Young scored 10 points, and VanHoesen scored six off two three point baskets. Adrian shot 61 percent from the floor in the first half, continued to shoot well in the second half.
The Scots went on another run in the second half to get within two points of Adrian at the 12 minute mark in the second half. The Bulldogs bounced back with a layup from Young, back-to-back baskets from Matt Wayne and a couple of three pointers from VanHoesen and Jordan Parks. Adrian was able to hold on to the double digit lead for the rest of the game.
The Bulldogs will play their final home game of the season this weekend, Feb. 14th against Trine.
