Young Scores 30 in Loss at Olivet

Feb. 21, 2009

OLIVET, Mich. - The Adrian College men's basketball team ended the regular season with an 81-76 loss to Olivet at the Cutler Event Center on Saturday afternoon. Desmond Young scored a game-high 30 points against the Comets.

Adrian's big three of Young, Michael Staley and Matt Wayne accounted for 49 of Adrian's 76 points against Olivet, but it was not enough as the McClary brothers led the Comets to victory. Michael McClary led the team with 21 points, while Brandon McClary scored 16 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

Young scored 30 points by hitting 11 of his 14 shots, and by shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. Wayne also shot a high percentage from the floor (7-8) to come up with 14 points. Staley struggled with his jumper, but ended the game with 15 points, eight of which came from the free throw line.

The Comets held the lead for the majority of the first half. They were up by nine points with under a minute to play in the first half, but Young scored back-to-back layups to cut into the lead and make the score 39-35 at halftime.

The Bulldogs were unable to take the lead in the second half, and Olivet hit their free throws at the end of the game to secure the win.
