The women's lacrosse team got a big offensive day from Jovelle Ward who scored four goals at #15 Catholic, but it was not enough in a 13-8 loss to the Cardinals. Ward scored three of the goals in the first half and added the final goal of the game with 14 seconds left.
Adrian (0-2) got down 3-0 to start the game and could never quite turn the corner after that strong beginning by the Cardinals. AC got it to within one goal at 5-4 and 6-5 with the halftime score of 6-5 coming after a Mariana DiGiovanni goal at 2:10 left in the opening half.
Catholic scored the first three goals of the second half to increase their lead to 9-5 with 25:44 left in the game. Lauren Cassavar's goal at 22:52 ended the mini-run but then the Cardinals scored four straight to take a 13-6 lead with 9:59 to play. DiGiovanni also added a second half goal with 1:32 to go off a free position shot.
Laura Finfrock made 14 saves in net for Adrian including 11 in the second half. Ward had her four goals on five shots and she also was given an assist on Adrian's first goal scored by Rachel Johnston. DiGiovanni led Adrian with six shots including five shots on goal. Katie Bitonti led Catholic with four goals and Mary Swarthout added three goals for the Cardinals (1-0).
