Feb. 4, 2009

Final Stats

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Adrian College men's basketball team took the Kalamazoo Hornets into overtime, but they were unable to come way with the victory on Wednesday night at the Anderson Athletic Center. Adrian had a 31-28 lead at halftime, but they could not hang on as Kalamazoo out scored the Bulldogs 15-9 in overtime to earn the win.

Tonight's contest was a lot like the first match-up between these two teams. The Bulldogs won the first meeting 72-69. The two evenly matched teams would once again battle to the final buzzer. There were 10 ties and six lead changes during tonight's game. One key factor in the outcome was Kalamazoo's bench scoring 26 points compared to just nine from Adrian.

The Bulldogs got off to a good start and led the Hornets by three points going into halftime. Adrian started the second half well as they pushed their lead to nine. Ryan Clark got the Hornets back into the game with a sound offensive game. Clark led Kalamazoo with a game-high 17 points. The Hornets also had an inside presence due to the combination of Henry McCain and Joe Prepolec. McCain scored 15 points and grabbed ten rebounds, while Prepolec added 10 points and eight boards.

Desmond Young's shooting woes continued as the senior shot 6-of-19 from the floor to end the game with 15 points and five assists. Three of his baskets came from three point range. Michael Staley also finished the game with 15 points, while adding four assists and six rebounds.

Matt Wayne and Brett Asher provided an inside force to the Bulldog offense. Wayne led Adrian with 16 points, while Asher added nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs will look to end their losing streak this weekend when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Calvin on Feb. 7, at 3:00 p.m.
