ADRIAN,MICH.-The ACHA Division 1 hockey team
faced-off in a pair of GLCHL conference games on Friday and
Saturday as a home and home series with the Western Michigan
Stallions. The Bulldogs walk away with two wins in conference play
defeating the Stallions by scores of 4-0 and 8-3.
After a scoreless first period Friday night, the Adrian came out
with a bang by scoring three goals in the second period. A pair of
goals from freshman Joe
Anstett at 14:14 and 5:45 with a goal from sophomore Kevin
Sunde in between saw the Bulldogs leave the ice after 40
minutes of play with a 3-0 lead. The Adrian shooters peppered
the Western net in the third but Tom
Ciaverilla's power play goal was the only one scored in
the final frame as the Bulldogs skated away with a 4-0 win.
The Bulldogs outshot the Stallions 44-10 with sophomore Goaltender
Jason
Spada stopping all ten shots to earn the shutout.
Saturday the Bulldog offense showed up quick and often as Jordan
Spear, a freshman, got the scoring started four minutes after
the puck had dropped. Adrian would score 2 more, getting
goals from freshman Ryan
Bachman and sophomore Spencer
Bonomo, running the score to 3-0 before Western would get on
the board. The first period ended with the Bulldogs leading
3-1 and the lead would only widen from there. The second
period belonged to Adrian as three unanswered goals in the period
pushed the score to 6-1 at the end of two. Bonomo got his
second of the day along with sophomore Alex
Norman's power play marker, and senior Jared
Semple's goal in the second. Bonomo's second
goal of the game ended up being the game-winner for the
Bulldogs. Western Michigan took advantage of an Adrian
penalty that carried over from the second period and scored only 11
seconds into the third period earning their second marker of the
night. Bachman answered back less than three minutes later as
he netted his second goal of the night. Sophomore Joe
Coffin scored at the twelve minute mark of the period
neared giving the Bulldogs their final goal of the night and
pushing the score to 8-2. The Stallions would score again but
they would not find enough offense to challenge the lead built by
Adrian. Freshman Matt
Anderson stood tall in net for the Bulldogs earning the
win.
The Bulldogs will look to continue their dominance in conference
play as they face off against GLCHL opponents Eastern Michigan in
Ypsilanti on Thursday night.
