ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College Athletic Director Craig Rainey '89 has announced the promotion of Doug Raymond '14 to head coach of the Adrian College ACHA Men's Division 1 hockey team. Raymond has served as the program's associate head coach since 2020 under Gary Astalos.
"Words can't express how grateful and honored I am to be the next head coach of our ACHA Division 1 hockey program," Raymond said. "I would like to personally thank Athletic Director Craig Rainey and President Docking for believing in me and trusting me to lead our program as we continue to strive for excellence both on and off the ice. I also want to thank Gary Astalos for his support and mentorship throughout the years. He laid the foundation for this program over the last decade, and we wouldn't be where we are today without his leadership. I am grateful to have spent the last six years coaching alongside him and accomplishing so much together. I'm excited for this next chapter of my career and can't wait to get the season started."
Raymond began his coaching career at Adrian College as the head coach of the ACHA Men's Division 3 team, leading the Bulldogs for two seasons. Following his success with the ACHA Division 3 program, he was promoted to the ACHA Men's Division 1 staff as associate head coach. During his six seasons with the Bulldogs, Raymond helped guide the program to two ACHA National Championships. During his time on the MD1 staff, the team has won the conference championship every season and has qualified for the National Tournament. The team has made deep runs in the National Tournament including multiple semifinals and championship appearances.
"Doug has been a staple of our MD1 program for the last six seasons," former head coach Gary Astalos said. "He is hardworking, dedicated, and has an incredibly brilliant hockey mind, but most importantly, he is an amazing person. I truly couldn't be happier for him. This program will continue to excel under his leadership, and I can't wait to see Doug and this outstanding group of student-athletes take it to even greater heights."
Raymond will begin his head coaching responsibilities immediately as he prepares the Bulldogs for the 2026-27 season.
