The Adrian College football team cruised to a 41-0 win at
Olivet College on Saturday using all facets of the game. The
Bulldog offense gained 459 total yards with 206 rushing yards and
253 passing yards. The Bulldog defense held the Comets to just 125
total yards which is the fourth lowest total allowed in school
history. The special teams saw Adrian connect on a pair of field
goals and also need to punt just twice for an average of 38 yards.
Adrian had a few notable individual performances as senior Mike
McGee set a new career record at AC with 378 completions after
going 17-of-28 for 253 yards. McGee surpassed the career passing
yards record last week and now has 5,214 yards. Junior Jared
Edwards established a new career-best with 32 carries and gained
138 yards with a score for his fourth 100-yard game of his career.
Senior Scott Normandin picked off his first pass and returned it
for a score from 12 yards in the fourth quarter for the last score
of the game.
Logan Mitseff connected on a 25-yard field goal at 1:57 left in
the first quarter to give Adrian a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs added 10
points in the second quarter as Jeremy Southworth scored his fourth
career rushing touchdown from two yards at the 3:56 mark capping
off a 14-play, 79-yard drive which lasted 6:07. The team got
another boost as time expired as Mitseff made a career-long 47-yard
field goal which was two yards shy of the school record to make it
17-0 at the break.
McGee threw back-to-back touchdown passes for the next Adrian
scores. Justin Hemm hauled in a 35-yard toss on a go-route beating
the defender at 10:02 of the third quarter. Kyle Timmis made a
great individual play on the ball at 14:13 of the fourth as he
caught a tipped ball from 29 yards after the Olivet player
initially tried to intercept the throw in the end zone. Edwards
then scored from one yard out at 10:58 to make it 34-0. Normandin's
interception return for a score at 5:20 provided the final touches
on the Bulldogs' first MIAA win (2-3, 1-1 MIAA).
Hemm led the team with six catches for 77 yards. Mitch Gabriele
had three catches for 35 yards. Alex Eastwood had a 29-yard catch
which set up the Edwards score. Edwards also had two punt returns
