ADRIAN, Mich. - The men's basketball team got back to its roots with tough defense as they posted a 61-52 win over Saint Francis (Ill.) at home on Tuesday (Nov. 30). The Bulldogs were giving up 46.9 percent shooting coming into the game and held the Fighting Saints to 37.2 percent shooting including a 2-of-10 mark from behind the three-point arc. Adrian also forced 16 turnovers and converted those into 10 points.
Sophomore forward Sean Gallant displayed his outside shooting touch going 3-of-5 behind the arc and finished with 15 points tying a career-high set earlier this season against Wentworth. Gallant also led the team with eight rebounds which was one shy of his career-high set this season against Siena Heights. Gallant went 6-of-9 overall from the floor and also had a pair of blocked shots.
Adrian led throughout the contest as they took a 6-4 lead at the 17:39 mark on a three-pointer by Gallant and never let up. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 19-12 with 10:21 left in the half on a layup by Gallant. USF cut the lead to 21-17 at the 8:07 mark but Adrian gave up just three points the rest of the half and led 29-20 at the break.
Adrian had a double-digit lead on four different occasions in the first 10 minutes of the second half making just enough shots to keep the Fighting Saints from making a serious run. USF cut the lead down to 43-39 with 6:18 remaining but Adrian went on a 9-3 run over the next two and a half minutes to regain a comfortable 52-42 lead with 3:34 to play.
The Bulldogs struggled to put the Fighting Saints away at the free throw line but finally made their last six attempts at the charity stripe in the final 31 seconds to secure the win. Sophomore guard Delano Collins ended with six assists and seven points. Sophomore guard Wesley Reed finished with seven points and three assists in 30 minutes and did not commit a turnover. Senior Jovon Mosley added 10 points off the bench and grabbed four rebounds in 27 minutes.
