Comeback Attempt Falls Short in 51-49 Loss to Spring Arbor

ADRIAN, Mich. - The men's basketball team made a late surge Wednesday night against Spring Arbor after trailing by nine points with 4:42 remaining. Senior Jovon Mosley's final shot with one second left rolled off the front of the rim which would have sent the game into overtime in a 51-49 loss to the Cougars (10-7). Adrian (4-5) also had a nine-point lead in the contest which came with 9:41 left in the first half and the Bulldogs also led 22-20 at halftime.

D.J. Baisden went on a hot streak in the second half for the Cougars as he scored 19 of his game-high 21 points after the break and also went 5-for-5 from behind the arc. The second half went back and forth with three ties in the first 8:39, but Spring Arbor then went on a 10-0 run to take a 43-34 lead with just 4:42 left in the contest. Adrian went just over six minutes without a point during the crucial stretch.

Mosley hit a triple to stop the run and after a Baisden three-pointer, Dennis Mason hit a pair of free throws and Delano Collins had a steal and layup to cut the lead to 46-41 with 3:31 to play. The lead remained five for Spring Arbor with 1:41 left when Jovon Mosley hit a triple to cut the lead to 50-48 at the 1:04 mark. Baisden missed a jumper with 30 seconds to go and Adrian got the rebound and pushed it up the floor. Collins was fouled on his way to the basket and split at the line with 22 seconds left. Rob Hogans was sent to the line with 11 seconds remaining and missed the first before making the second to make it 51-49. Collins drove into the lane and his shot was blocked and Mosley picked up the loose ball on the right block and put up a shot which just rolled off the rim.

Mosley led Adrian with 14 points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench. Wesley Reed added 11 points and went 3-for-5 from the arc. Collins finished with six points, six assists and four rebounds in 36 minutes. Adrian shot 38.6 percent overall and were 8-for-15 from the arc. Spring Arbor shot 37.2 percent overall and were 12-for-18 at the foul line. Adrian outscored the Spring Arbor bench, 29-9, in the game.
