ADRIAN, Mich. -
The Adrian College men's basketball team had their four-game winning streak snapped by Calvin College on Wednesday night. The Knights defeated Adrian by the final score of 78-67.
Jovon Mosley and Wesley Reed each scored in double digits for the Bulldogs. Mosley hit three shots from behind the arc and was a perfect 5-for-five from the charity stripe to lead AC with 20 points. He also led Adrian in rebounding with seven. Reed hit two shots from three point range as he finished the game with 14 points.
The Knights used a balanced offensive attack as four of their five starters put up double digits in the scoring column. Danny Rodts and Matt Veltema led the way with 14 points each. Big man John Mantel poured in 12 points, while Trent Salo added 10.
The Bulldogs kept the game close in the first half. Calvin got out to an eight point lead with 9:02 remaining, but Adrian battled back and took the lead with two minutes left in the half. AC shot only 29 percent from the floor, but they were able to crush Calvin on the boards in the first 20 minutes of action. The Bulldogs snatched 12 offensive boards, and nine on the defensive end compared to just 14 from the Knights.
Calvin outscored Adrian 43-36 in the second half. Veltema scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half to lead the Knights. Calvin also made some adjustments as they ended up outrebounding Adrian 37-32 to limit the Bulldogs second chance opportunities. Adrian still managed to score more bench points than Calvin (33-21).
The 12-10 Bulldogs will travel to Olivet to face the Comets on February 13th. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
