Big Innings Lead to Sweep of Alma

ADRIAN, Mich. - The baseball team surged into first place in the MIAA with a sweep of Alma on Thursday. Trine took one game at Hope which puts Adrian at 12-2 in the league and Hope 11-3. The Bulldogs took care of business with a 17-1 win in game one and a 13-4 win in game two.

Freshman shortstop Cody Meyer had his best day as a collegian going 5-for-5 in the doubleheader with four runs scored and five RBI's. Meyer hit out of the ninth spot in the lineup and delivered for the Bulldogs. He raised his season average to .305 in the process.

Senior outfielder Alex Cowart tied two school records for hits (202) and steals (51) against the Scots. Cowart entered the game with 199 hits and went 3-for-4 with his seventh homer of the season and five RBI's. Cowart went 0-for-2 in the nightcap and scored a run but will have to wait until Saturday at Alma to attempt to break both records.

Nate Sarkissian hit a home run (4,5) in each game including a grand slam in the fourth inning of game two. Sarkissian had five RBI's on the day. Joe Dubina also had a big first game with three RBI's including a two-run jack to left.

Andrew Anderson went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI's in game two. He had his first triple of the season and also drew a walk. Ryan Domschot got the win (4-1) in game one going six innings and allowing three hits. He allowed one earned run and walked two with seven strikeouts. In the process he lowered his ERA to 3.00 on the year.

Josh Lancaster picked up the victory in game two (5-1) going five-plus innings allowing eight hits and four earned runs. He walked two and struck out two in an 85-pitch outing. Craig Steadman threw the final two innings and allowed one hit of scoreless ball.

Adrian has won 10 straight and will travel to Alma on Saturday to continue the four-game series.
