MARIETTA, Ohio - The Adrian College women's soccer team got its
first win of 2010 with a complete effort in a 3-0 win over Mount
St. Joseph at the Marietta Soccer Classic on Saturday. The Mount
finished second in the HCAC a year ago with a record of 11-6-2.
However, it was a hungry Bulldog squad which will play in the
tournament final on Sunday in Marietta, Ohio.
Adrian (1-1) allowed just four shots on goal by MSJ as Chayna
Wallace pitched her first career shutout making four saves in 90
minutes. Freshman Sam Barker scored her first collegiate goal at
6:11 with an assist from Tessa Kellar. Barker tucked the ball
inside the right post from eight yards out. Senior Sabrina Fortney
made it 2-0 at 22:49 for her first goal of the season. Brittany
Moreau got the assist as a loose ball inside the six-yard box was
buried by Fortney.
In the second half, it was Adrian putting the match away as
Kellar's first goal of the season at 88:25 made it 3-0. Freshman
Anika Johnson got her first collegiate assist as Kellar shot into
the upper right corner from 10 yards out.
Adrian will face Rivier in the championship match tomorrow.
Barker had eight shots on goal as Adrian recorded 13 as a team and
24 total shots.
