KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The men's basketball team was trying to keep pace amongst the top teams in the MIAA on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 29), but slipped two games behind league-leading Hope into a three-way tie for second with a 73-64 loss at Kalamazoo College. The Hornets forged a tie with the Bulldogs and Calvin College by coming back from a six-point halftime deficit outscoring Adrian, 43-28, in the second half. The 73 points allowed by Adrian is a season-high as the Hornets shot 53.3 percent for the game and 56 percent in the second half.
The game featured five ties and 12 lead changes as Adrian led by as many as 10 points in the first half. The Bulldogs led 26-16 with 6:56 left in the opening half after a Jovon Mosley layup which capped off a 12-1 run. Adrian led 36-30 at the break as Eric Fishman hit a big triple just before halftime to cut the lead to six.
Kalamazoo came out of the locker room on a mission as they scored 12 of the first 14 points of the half to take a 42-38 lead. Joe Prepolec scored six points during the spurt and Joe Wilson and Fishman also had a three-pointer. The next several minutes was a slugfest as neither team led by more than four points. Adrian took a 51-47 lead with 11:55 remaining after a three-point play by Mosley. Kalamazoo would outscore Adrian, 26-13, for the remainder of the contest to claim a nine-point win. The Bulldogs were down 54-53 at the 9:45 mark, but ultimately struggled to score for six-minute period and fell behind by 11 at 66-55 with 3:41 to play.
Mosley tied his season-high with 23 points. He went 7-of-13 from the floor, 3-of-5 behind the arc and 6-of-7 at the free throw line. Sean Gallant notched his second double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in 39 minutes. Delano Collins established a new career-high with 13 assists in the ballgame and did not record a single turnover in 37 minutes. Dennis Mason also scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and recorded two blocks and two steals. Adrian shot 41.7 percent overall and were 7-of-16 behind the arc. Prepolec led Kalamazoo with 20 points after scoring just five in the previous meeting this season at Adrian.
