Bulldogs Win MIAA Opener, 62-48, over Kalamazoo

ADRIAN, Mich. - The fourth-ranked defense in Division III went to work again on Wednesday night in their MIAA opener as they limited Kalamazoo College to 26.5 percent shooting and forced 22 turnovers in a 62-48 victory. The Bulldogs (6-5, 1-0 MIAA) pulled away in the second half as they shot 45.5 percent overall.

The Bulldogs also shot 76.9 percent (20-for-26) which is a substantial increase from their 65.6 percent clip from the stripe heading into the game. Adrian made 14 of those freebies in the second half. Adrian also controlled the boards, 41-33, and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds in the contest which led to nine second-chance points.

Three players were in double figures for Adrian who connected on 19-for-47 from the floor (40.4 percent). The unlikely offense came from sophomore Delano Collins. Collins averages 6.5 points per game but scored a team-high 13 and also dished out six assists in 33 minutes. Senior Jovon Mosley added 11 points going 3-for-4 from the floor and 5-for-6 at the stripe. Sophomore Wesley Reed chipped in 10 points and recorded three steals. Reed went 4-for-8 from the floor and 1-for-3 from the arc.

Eric Fishman led Kalamazoo with 21 points but shot 4-for-13 from the arc before fouling out. The Bulldogs held Joe Prepolec without a field goal for the game. Prepolec averages 17.0 points per game and was limited to just five free throws. Both teams had troubles controlling the ball as Adrian had 24 turnovers.
