Box Score LIMA, Ohio – The Adrian College (0-1) men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker in its season opener to the University of Northwestern Ohio (3-2) by the score of 72-69. The Bulldogs were up nine points at halftime and as much as 10 with 11:39 left in regulation, however the Racers would go on a 20-9 run to take a 64-63 lead with just under three minutes remaining. The run was topped off by a three pointer courtesy of UNW's Jake Bolyard. Down by five with 33 seconds remaining, Adrian's junior point guard Delano Collins drained a three-pointer to cut the Racers' lead to 71-69. UNW would split a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left to make it 72-69, giving Adrian one last shot. Adrian had two opportunities to tie it but came up short.
Leading Adrian's offense was junior Brad Whitby with 17 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Bulldogs were juniors Cody Barnes and Sean Gallanet with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Also chipping in was Collins with nine points to go along with his game-high five steals.
On the boards, freshman Adam Meier tied a game-high with eight rebounds (four offensive and four defensive). Following Meier was Whitby with seven and Collins with six. Collins also dished out a team-high five assists.
For the game, the Racers shot 47.2% (51.7% in the second half), compared to Adrian's 37.9%.
