HOLLAND, Mich. - After a slugfest in the first half, Hope turned on the after-burners in the second half en route to a 63-45 win over the men's basketball team in the MIAA Tournament Semifinals at DeVos Fieldhouse on Friday night (Feb. 25).
The first half saw Adrian lead for most of the half as they jumped out to a 11-4 lead with 7:49 left after a triple by Wesley Reed. Hope scored the next six points however to cut the lead to 11-10 at the 6:22 mark after layups by Adam Dickerson, Nate Snuggerud and Will Bowser. Cody Barnes made a free throw and Delano Collins added two more free throws to make it 14-10 with 4:45 left. Hope would then end the first half on a 11-1 run and lead 21-15 at the break. The Bulldogs went the final 7:49 of the half without a field goal.
Hope came out with a vengence in the second half and took a five-point lead at 27-22 and turned it into a 49-25 lead over a seven-minute span to essentially put the game on ice. Adrian never recovered after the surge and got as close as 14 points twice in the last 5:09.
Adrian shot 34 percent for the game (16-of-47) and were 4-of-10 from the arc. They had a season-low 9-of-20 outing (45%) at the free throw line and also committed 18 turnovers. Hope shot 50 percent (26-of-52) for the game including a 58.6 percent clip in the second half and made 10-of-15 to start the half. The Flying Dutchmen were 4-of-13 from deep and 7-of-10 at the charity stripe.
Hope scored 36 points in the paint and 20 points off Adrian turnovers. Adrian did have 11 second chance points and grabbed eight offensive rebounds and 32 total boards. There were three ties and three lead changes in the contest.
Barnes led AC with eight points and had three steals. Sean Gallant led the team with eight caroms and scored five points. Drew Torey made both of his shots and finished with five points. Derek Clark also had five points and two assists. Adrian finished the season with a 13-13 record in Mark White's second season.
Notes: Sophomore forward Dennis Mason left the game after four minutes with an apparent foot injury and did not return...Mosley played in his final game for the Bulldogs and after scoring 55 points in the previous two games ended with three points tonight...Hope is now 5-2 all-time in MIAA Tournament games against Adrian...AC's last win over Hope in the conference tournament came in 2004 at Holland Civic Center under Buck Riley.
