GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's basketball team showed up big time on Wednesday night (Feb. 9) at Calvin College and came away with a much-needed 75-63 win over the Knights. The Bulldogs (11-10, 6-5) came into the game with a three-game losing skid and with the win swept the season series against Calvin for the first time since the 1987-88 season. There was a senior point guard named Mark White on that team. He now is the second-year head coach at his alma mater.
Sophomore Cody Barnes tied a season-high with four three-pointers and finished with a team-high 16 points and six rebounds off the bench in 24 minutes. He went 5-of-9 from the floor (4-of-7 3's) and connected on both of his free throws. Tim Hasse also came off the bench in his first varsity game of the season and made two three-pointers in four minutes to finish with six points.
Three other Bulldogs scored in double figures as Wesley Reed, Jovon Mosley and Sean Gallant each had 13 points. Gallant set a career-high with seven blocks and also had five assists in 37 minutes. Mosley went 3-of-3 from behind the arc and went 5-of-7 from the field. Reed went 4-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the line and also had three steals and three rebounds.
Delano Collins scored seven points and also dished out nine assists in 33 minutes. Adrian shot 54 percent from the floor (27-of-50) which is their highest percentage on the road this season. Adrian improved to 3-6 on the road and also went 12-of-21 (.571) from behind the arc. AC set season-highs in three-pointers made and three-point percentage.
Calvin was limited to 25.9 percent shooting in the first half and 35.7 percent for the game (20-of-56) as Adrian took a 33-23 lead into halftime. The game featured four ties and four lead changes. Adrian took a 17-15 lead at the 8:55 mark of the first half and did not give it up for the rest of the contest.
