Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. - The Bulldog men's basketball team withheld a second-half rally from Calvin College to get their eighth win of the season, 68-61, in the MIAA Conference opener for both teams. Junior forward Sean Gallant led the way for the Bulldogs scoring 19 points and pulling down seven rebounds.
After holding an eight-point halftime lead, Calvin started the second half on a 9-0 run to go ahead 35-34. Shortly thereafter, junior guard Delano Collins found Gallant for a three-point basket which gave Collins one of his seven assists and the Bulldogs a two-point lead. Adrian held onto that lead for the rest of the game.
Also showing up big for the Bulldogs was sophomore forward Richaud Pack who finished with 16 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Brad Whitby did his part, finishing with 11 points. The win marks Adrian's third straight win over Calvin, which dropped to 5-7 and 0-1 in the MIAA.
For the game, Adrian grabbed five steals while only surrendering nine turnovers. The Bulldogs also went 6-of-24 from behind the arc, which gave them an advantage in three-pointers over the Knights of Calvin, who only hit three.
Adrian (8-3, 1-0 MIAA) will travel to Hope College this Saturday to take on the Flying Dutchmen at 3:00 p.m. Hope currently sits at 11-1 (1-0) after a conference opening 103-78 win over Alma. Hope also is nationally ranked 12th in the d3hoops.com national poll.
