Box Score

OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College football team took care of business on the road on Saturday (Oct. 20) with a 28-8 victory at Olivet College. The Bulldogs won for the sixth straight time this season improving to 6-1, 4-0 MIAA. In addition, Adrian has now defeated Olivet five straight times and leads the all-time series 46-22-1.

Adrian took the ball first in this contest and Rashawn Ponder returned the opening kickoff 54 yards to the Olivet 33-yard line. Adrian's offense could not cash in however as quarterback Taylor Copacia was stopped on fourth-and-one at the Olivet 10-yard line for no gain.

Olivet gained just one yard on their first drive and punted back to Adrian who took over at their own 41-yard line after a 48-yard punt by Anthony Edwards. Adrian's second drive stalled as well but Dustin Salliotte pinned the Comets on their own 10-yard line.

The field position battle finally paid off for the Bulldogs as they took their third possession at their own 45-yard line and marched 55 yards in seven plays capped off by a Kyle Smock three-yard touchdown run with 2:13 left in the first quarter. Adrian held the ball for 10:04 in the opening quarter and allowed just 25 yards to the Comets, all on the ground.

Adrian took a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter after Olivet went for it on fourth-and-one at their own 36-yard line and were stuffed by Aaron Gray. The Bulldogs took advantage of the short field moving 36 yards in three plays highlighted by a 31-yard touchdown catch from Justin Hemm thrown by Copacia.

Neither team moved the ball effectively for the rest of the second quarter as Adrian led 14-0 at the break. Adrian's first possession of the second half gave them a 21-0 lead as Alex Krajniak carried into the end zone for the first time this season from one-yard out capping off a six-play, 45-yard drive.

The Bulldogs finished their scoring with 2:31 left in the third quarter as Danny Cobb rushed to paydirt from 10 yards after a Javier Lara fumble gave Adrian tremendous field position. Olivet put together their scoring drive at 11:59 left in the game. The Comets moved 50 yards and Chance Nighting carried in from six yards and also completed a two-point conversion pass to Zechariah Jenki.

Adrian outgained Olivet, 345-149, for the contest as the MIAA's best defense put together another solid game. In fact, the Bulldogs went 15 quarters in MIAA play without allowing a TD until Olivet punched it in late in the game.

Dae'Von Robinson led the Bulldogs with 69 rushing yards on 10 carries. Damon Brown toted the ball eight times for 46 yards. Smock finished with 11 carries for 31 yards and a score. Copacia completed 13-of-16 passes for 157 yards and a score. He was sacked three times by Comet defenders. Hemm finished with five catches for 65 yards.
