Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Adrian College men's basketball used a stifling first half of defense to set the tone in a 62-51 win at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday afternoon. CMU scored just 11 points in the first 20 minutes shooting 20 percent (5-of-25) from the floor including 0-of-7 beyond the arc. Adrian shot 47.1 percent (8-of-17) in the first half but committed 12 turnovers as they led 19-11.
Adrian came out strong in the second half against the Tartans (1-6) and increased their lead to 33-13 with 15:26 remaining after a bucket by sophomore Adam Meier. Carnegie Mellon did not crack the 30-point barrier until 6:57 left in the game trailing 43-31 after a layup by Andre Moore.
The 12-point margin was the closest the home team could come until 56 seconds left in the game when they cut the deficit to 56-46 after a triple by Rob Mohen. Junior Drew Torey then made two free throws followed by freshman Darryl Flemister knocking down a pair with 34 seconds to go. Senior Sean Gallant scored Adrian's final points of the game on a tip-in basket with 14 seconds left. Asad Meghani made a three-pointer with seven seconds left to make the final margin 62-51.
Adrian was led in scoring by sophomore Eric Lewis who netted 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting and also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Meier also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 6-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the foul line. Adrian failed to make a three-pointer in the game (0-of-6) but were 16-of-20 at the charity stripe. Moore led the Tartans with 18 points in 31 minutes. Carnegie Mellon shot 53.8 percent in the second half and finished 19-of-51 (37.3 percent) for the game.
