Bulldogs Win Second Straight with Sweep of Albion

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – The Bulldogs travelled to Albion College Tuesday night as they looked to sweep the season series from the Britons. Albion tested Adrian in the first set as they pushed the Bulldogs to extra points, but the Bulldogs prevailed on their way to a 3-0 victory over the Britons. This win advances the overall record for Adrian to 11-11 with a 5-7 mark in the MIAA.

The first set saw the two teams need extra points to decide a victor as the Bulldogs outlasted Albion, 26-24, to take the initial 1-0 match lead. Adrian took a 13-9 lead before the Britons scored six straight to take a 15-9 advantage. The teams then battled through five ties, but the Bulldogs prevailed by scoring the final two to break the 24-24 tie to take the early match lead.

Set two saw the Bulldogs overwhelm Albion with a 25-14 win. Adrian broke away from the Britons with five straight points to leave the score at 18-11 and capped their win with four straight points late in the set to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs completed their sweep by taking the third set 25-19. The set was close as the teams played to a tied score four times, but Adrian pulled away by scoring the final five points of the set.

Adrian was led by Linnea Berriman as she totaled eight kills on a .429 hitting percentage. Jordan Brisson tallied nine kills and three blocks while Marisa Dion added 23 assists. The Bulldog defense was led by Haley Mellon as she recorded 15 digs. Margo Joubran compiled six kills and 12 digs while Andrea Phillips added 13 digs and five kills.

Head coach Dave Kwan commented on the team's win, "We had trouble dealing with their blockers in the first set, but we made adjustments. This allowed us to play defense around it and Marisa Dion and Dre Phillips did an outstanding job of giving us some crucial digs in tight moments."

The Bulldogs will see action again October 17 when they host Trine University at 6:30 p.m.
