Bulldogs Drop 3-0 Decision at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The women's volleyball team found it tough sledding on the road at Kalamazoo College on Wednesday (Oct. 22) with a 3-0 loss to the Hornets by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-15. Kalamazoo had a consistent hitting night with all three sets in the .200 range. The Bulldogs hit .235 in the close second set, but just .152 in the first set and .057 in the third set.

Nya Greenstone led the way for the Hornets with 15 kills and hit .325 with 14 digs. Adrian was led by junior Jordan Brisson with nine kills and she also hit .292 for the match. Marisa Dion assisted on 20 of the team's 33 kills and also had four digs. Margo Joubran registered six kills, two service aces and 11 digs. Three other Bulldogs were in double figures in the dig category including Haley Mellon (15), Nicole Motz (11) and Rachel Wathen (10).

The Hornets led from start to finish in the first set jumping out to a 10-2 lead. Greenstone had three kills and Paige Johnson added two more in the opening spurt. Adrian trimmed the lead down to 12-7 after a kill by Linnea Berriman only to see Kalamazoo score the next three points to get back to 15-7. The Bulldogs could not claw closer than six points for the rest of the set.

The second set was a battle as Adrian led for a majority of the set, but not by more than three points. The Bulldogs led 10-7 after a Joubran kill and later 16-13 after a Berriman kill. From that point, the Hornets closed out the set with a 12-7 run. The score was tied 23-23 when the Hornets called a timeout. Jacolyn Mullins had a service error and Dana Devito subbed in and delivered a service ace to give KC a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs made it interesting to start the third set with a quick 5-1 lead. Mellon had a nice service run to build a fast lead. Kalamazoo began chipping away and tied the game at 11-11. The Hornets used a short run to gain a 16-12 lead after a Greenstone kill and went on to the three-set sweep.
