Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team rebounded nicely after a loss earlier this week and posted a 66-52 win over Alma on Saturday at the Merillat Center Gymnasium. The play of the Adrian guards in particular propelled them to the sizable victory improving to 6-11 overall and 4-2 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Senior Jamison Webster scored nine of his season-high 14 points in the first half and went 6-for-9 from the field in 34 minutes. Junior Rickey Jackson, Jr. notched his first double-double of the season with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jackson, Jr. scored nine of his 16 points in the second half and also contributed three assists and two steals. Junior Jordan Denham playing in his 10th game for the Bulldogs came off the bench to score in double figures for the first time with 12 points including a pair of three-pointers.
The Adrian defense has been key to their winning record in the MIAA and held Alma to 33.3 percent from the field including 22.2 percent from behind the arc (6-for-27). The Bulldogs held Alma's leading scorer D.J. Beckman to two points at the free throw line. Beckman went 0-for-10 from the field including 0-for-8 from the arc in 27 minutes. Chase Fairchild scored 14 points and hit four triples for the Scots. Doug Bradfield grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and added six points. Scott Nikodemski scored 11 points going 4-for-6 from the field in 31 minutes.
Adrian caused 19 turnovers and converted those into 21 points. The first half was a competitive session as Adrian and Alma had four ties and two lead changes. Alma took a 10-9 lead with 11:19 left in the opening half and then Adrian scored six straight points. The Bulldogs and Scots were tied at 15 with 9:03 left, but then Adrian regained the lead and kept it for the rest of the game. Adrian began to pull away late in the first half and went into the locker room up 31-24.
Adrian opened up the second half on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 40-24. Jamison Webster scored five points and Denham also hit a triple during the run. The Bulldogs led by as many as 21 points, 53-32, with 7:45 to play when Alma began to apply full court pressure. The Scots caused a few turnovers and cut the lead down to 11 with 1:46 remaining, but did not make a serious threat as Adrian shot 45.8 percent in the second half. Adrian will continue a three-game home stretch on Wednesday, Jan. 28 when they play Hope College (11-6, 4-2) at 7:30 p.m. The Flying Dutchmen began the conference slate 0-2 but have won four in a row heading into a battle of third place teams.
