Box Score 2 Bloomington, Ill. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team went 0-2 in first day of the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament in Bloomington, Ill. The Bulldogs fell to the hosting Titans 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-15) to open the tournament. They finished the first day playing Rose-Hulman tough, losing in the fifth set (25-20, 19-25, 25-18, 23-25, 9-15).
Freshman Olivia Welch led Adrian in the first match recording a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Senior Rachel Wathen and sophomore Haley Mellon led the team defensively with 15 and 14 digs respectively. Junior Marisa Dion paced the Bulldog offense with 14 assists.
Senior Jordan Brisson led Adrian in the final match of the day with 15 kills. Junior Margo Joubran and Welch also contributed on offense with tallying 12 kills and 22 digs for her second double-double of the day.
Haley Mellon led the Bulldogs with 26 digs in the second match, a season high for her. Welch and Mellon weren't the only Adrian players to record double digit digs in the match as Rachel Wathen had 22, junior Jessica Walters had 17 and Marisa Dion tallied 11. Dion also led the team in assists with 40, a season high for her in that category.
The Bulldogs will look to end their tournament play strong on the final day when they face Simpson at 11:00 a.m. and Millikin at 3:00 p.m.
