ANGOLA, Ind.--The Trine offense outhit Adrian College .101 to minus-.033 to take a 26-24, 25-23, 25-22 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's volleyball victory on Friday evening at Hershey Hall. The visiting Bulldogs fall even to .500 at 9-9 (4-5 MIAA) for the first time this season, while the Thunder improve to 9-11 overall (5-4 in the conference).

Both offenses struggled to get on track throughout the match, especially during the first two sets. Trine went for a .200 attack percentage while holding Adrian to a minus-.056 in the decisive stanza to clinch the match.

Junior Cassadine Reed paced Adrian with eight kills and a .250 hitting percentage, pacing all student-athletes with a minimum of 15 attack attempts. She also had a team-best six total blocks. Senior Jordan Brisson chipped in seven kills and six digs. Sophomore Haley Mellon contributed 12 digs.

Megan Verkamp was all over the Trine stat sheet by recording two kills shy of a triple-double along with 13 assists and 10 digs, plus she had five blocks. Mikayla Carpenter led two other teammates with a match-best 13 digs.

In the opening set, Adrian reeled off four points in a row to take a 4-1 lead on kills by junior setterMarisa Dion--her only one of the night alongside a match-best 18 assists--and Reed, and a pair of Thunder errors.

The Bulldogs kept the lead until a Shannon Scott kill ignited a 3-0 lead and Trine went up 23-20. But a pair of kills from Reed helped AC pull even 24-24 before the hosts took the next two points.

Trine jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the second set before Adrian eventually clawed even at 15-all and then went ahead 17-16 on a Thunder attack error.

Two Brisson kills gave AC a 23-22 advantage before Trine came back to take the next three points.

The teams continued to battle neck-and-neck in the finale as Trine went up 17-12 before Adrian seized back momentum with a 10-4 scoring run to go up 22-21.

The Bulldogs return home on Wednesday to square off against St. Mary's (Ind.) in another MIAA contest, starting at 7 p.m. in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
