Sophomore Taylor McCloy's Career-High Two Goals Sparks 8-2 NCHA Thumping of Finlandia

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich.--Sophomore Taylor McCloy scored a career-high two goals to ignite the nationally-ranked Adrian College men's hockey team to an 8-2 victory Friday evening over visiting Finlandia University in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action at the Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs scored seven goals over the last two periods to break open a close game that was tied 1-all after 20 minutes.

With the win, the Bulldogs (No. 3 D3hockey/No. 5 USCHO) extend their unbeaten streak to six games to improve to 6-1-1 on the season and 5-1-1 in the NCHA-South. The Lions drop to 1-5-3 overall and 1-4-2 in the NCHA-North.

McCloy gave Adrian a 1-0 lead just 5 minutes and 39 seconds into the contest on assists from freshmen Trevor Boyd and Josh Shellman, who registered his first collegiate point in his second appearance. Boyd's shot was stopped by goalie Andrew Brownlee (50 saves) but McCloy was at the doorstep to pounce for his first goal of the season.

The Lions knotted things up 10:11 later as François Côté notched his third goal of 2015-16, with Alex Rezansoff and Travis Cornwell credited with the assists.

Sophomore alternate captain Mathew Thompson added a goal and a career-best three assists to tie his personal-best of four points in a game for Adrian, which outshot Finlandia 58 to 27. Junior Jeremy Olinyk and sophomore Kyle Brothers both had a goal and two assists.

Like the first period, Adrian found the back of the net in the sixth minute of the second as junior alternate captain Daniel Lisi's first goal of the campaign glanced off the glove Brownlee. Freshman Chase Matson and senior captain Adam Davies earned the assists.

The Bulldogs led 2-1 before McCloy scored an insurance goal while AC was on the power-play midway through as Thompson and Boyd were given the assists. The teams then traded goals to close the second period. Max Seiter fed Thomas Clayton for Finlandia's last tally as Clayton snapped a shot from inside the left face-off circle over the right shoulder of freshman goalie Kevin Entmaa (25 saves) at the 15:56 mark. Thompson countered at the 17:30 mark.

Adrian put the game out of reach with four markers in the final period.

These same two teams will close their conference series at 3 p.m. Saturday here at Arrington.
