KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Bulldogs opened play in the MIAA Wednesday night as they traveled to take on Kalamazoo College. The Hornets jumped out to a 4-0 lead and weathered a late Bulldogs rush as they handed Adrian a 16-11 loss.

Kalamazoo carried a 4-0 lead nearly 18 minutes into the game before Alex Branum got Adrian on the board with an unassisted goal. The Bulldogs would use this to spark their offense in a four-goal first half. Annika Nuler and Courtney Wood scored goals just six seconds apart and Michelle Sandlin tallied a goal on a free position shot, but the Bulldogs trailed 10-4 at the break.

The Hornets would score the first two goals of the second half, but Adrian would find its offensive stride to outscore Kalamazoo, 7-6. Sandlin would spark the charge as she scored three straight goals to cut the Hornet lead to 12-7. Kalamazoo responded with the next four goals before Adrian made its final push. Branum would tally two more, Sandlin added her fifth of the game, and Jenna Carter found the back of the net, but the Bulldogs' surge would fall short in a 16-11 loss. Alison Dungey made the start in goal for Adrian and made four saves to earn the decision. 

Adrian now stands at 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA. The Bulldogs will see action again on Apr. 3 when they host Saint Mary's College at 12 p.m.
