Men's NCAA Ice Hockey

Quick Start by #2 @ACBulldogHockey Cuts Down the Visiting Foresters, 5-1

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich.--The No. 2-ranked Adrian College men's hockey team scored three goals in the opening period and never looked back in a 5-1 victory Friday over visiting Lake Forest College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association contest at Arrington Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs, who extend the nation's longest unbeaten streak to 14 games, improve to 13-1-1 on the season and 9-1-1 in the NCHA-South Division. The Foresters drop to 6-8 overall and 4-7 in the league.

Sophomore alternate captain Mathew Thompson led Adrian with a goal and two assists, while freshman defenseman Cory Dunn added three assists.

Junior alternate captain Daniel Lisi and Thompson scored 1 minute and 7 seconds apart late in the first period to take a commanding 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Lisi took a breakout pass from freshman Chase Matson and took a shot above the left wing face-off circle that beat the LFC goalie between his left arm and body. Thompson was the recipient of a nice passing play by Dunn from behind the net to sophomore Kyle Brothers.

Junior goalie Tyler Parks earned his fourth win (4-1-1) as a Bulldog, stopping 32 of 33 shots he faced while setting a season high for saves.

With the teams skating scoreless for much of the first period, junior Austin Hervey struck first for Adrian with 5:13 to go on assists from Lisi and Dunn.

Lake Forest's best scoring chance early on came just prior to Hervey's tally, but Vito Aluia's shot ringed off the post.

Sophomore Taylor McCloy and Brothers padded Adrian's lead to 5-0 with a pair of power-play goals just 26 seconds apart in the second period, with the Bulldogs working a 5-on-3.

In the Foresters net, George Argiropoulos came in relief for Leo Podolsky midway through the second period after Adrian's fifth goal and finished with 21 saves.

Jimmy Cusan scored, unassisted, at the 10:47 mark of the second period with Lake Forest on the power-play, ruining Parks' shutout bid.

Adrian outshot the Foresters 42 to 33 for the evening. The Bulldogs went 2-for-5 with the man-advantage, while Lake Forest was good for one on six opportunities.

These same two teams wrap up their NCHA series here at 3:05 p.m. Saturday.
