Men's Basketball Snaps Seven-Game Losing Streak Against Calvin With Convincing 85-61 Victory

ADRIAN, Mich.--Sophomore Anthony Cannon sparked Adrian College with a career-high 17 points to lead all scorers in an 85-61 win over visiting Calvin College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action on Saturday at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center. The host Bulldogs snap a four-game losing streak overall to improve to 9-8 on the season and 2-4 in the MIAA, while the Knights drop to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Cannon made 8-of-10 field goals coming off the bench to go along with five rebounds and three assists as four Bulldogs scored in double figures. Freshman Travon Johnson also established a career-high with 14 points, senior Rickey Jackson, Jr. added 13 and senior Christian Covile chipped in 12.

Jordan Daley and Cam Denney led Calvin with 16 and 11 points, respectively. Denney also had seven rebounds for the Knights, who lost the rebounding battle to Adrian 40 to 32. Covile led the Bulldogs with eight rebounds and freshman Isiah Crofford (6 points) had six.

Adrian shot a season-high 50.7 percent on field goals (35-69) and held the Knights to 39.7 (23-58) to help the Bulldogs stake a 43-33 halftime lead.

Calvin held the lead twice early in the first half, but the Bulldogs went ahead for good as Cannon scored six straight points in the game over 61 seconds to ignite 15-8 run. The game went from being tied at 13-all to 28-21 in Adrian's favor during a span of 5 minutes.

In the second half, the closer the Knights could get was seven points. Adrian won going away, outscoring the visitors 42-28.

Johnson was outstanding running the point for the Bulldogs, recording eight assists--another career-best--against only one turnover. As a team, Adrian also moved the basketball very well by notching a season-best 21 assists on 35 made field goals.

Adrian returns to the court on Wednesday at MIAA foe Kalamazoo, tipping off at 8 p.m.
