@ACBulldogHockey Freezes Lakers to Capture 2016 Oswego State/Pathfinder Bank Classic Crown

Box Score

OSWEGO, N.Y.--Five different goal-scorers lit the lamp as the nationally No. 2/4-ranked Adrian College men's hockey team rolled to an impressive 5-1 victory over host Oswego State in the Pathfinder Bank Classic championship at the Marano Campus Center Arena on Sunday.

The Bulldogs, who extend their unbeaten streak to 11 games to improve to 10-1-1 on the season, hand the Lakers (7-5-1) their worst home loss since their facility was opened in October 2006. (Hamilton defeated Oswego by an identical 5-1 score on Dec. 30, 2010.)

Adrian got all the offense it would need in the first period with three tallies. The Bulldogs outshot the Lakers, 18-11, in the opening stanza, and 42 to 37 for the contest.

Classic tournament MVP and sophomore alternate captain Mathew Thompson started the scoring at the 5:35 mark when he flipped the puck over the goalie's left shoulder and under the cross bar from down low between the face-off circles, taking a right wing feed from classmate Kyle Brothers

Then 3 minutes and 17 seconds later, junior Michael Hoy was credited with the game-winning goal when he backhanded a shot into the upper-right corner during a scrum in front.

Sophomore Taylor McCloy made it 3-0 with 3:12 remaining in the first when his centering pass from behind the cage glanced off the right skate of goalie Adrian Ignagni and the puck trickled past the goal line.

Oswego's best scoring chance came with 2:24 to go, but the shot hit the post with the home team on the power play.

Freshman goalie Kevin Entmaa improved to 8-0 on the season after making a career- and Adrian season-high 36 saves, lowering his goals-against average to 1.70. Senior captain Adam Davies joined Entmaa and Thompson on the all-tournament team.

Adrian tacked on two insurance goals late in the second period when freshman Trevor Boyd and junior Brett Pinkerton scored 76 seconds apart. The Bulldogs held a commanding 5-0 cushion.

Oswego's Kenny Neil spoiled Entmaa's shutout bid in the third period when he scored his eighth goal of the season at the 8:17 mark, with Chris Waterstreet earning the assist.

The teams combined to go 0-for-11 on the power-play.

Other members who made All-Classic: Tyler Young of Williams College and Oswego teammates Stephen Johnson and Kenny Neil.

Adrian is back in action this weekend at Aurora to resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. Friday's puckdrop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and Saturday's start time for 4 p.m.
