Men's Hockey Invades MSOE and Raids the Raiders with 3-1 NCHA Road Victory

MILWAUKEE--Senior captain Mathew Thompson scored twice, and junior netminder Kevin Entmaa stopped 38 shots, to propel visiting Adrian to a 3-1 victory over MSOE in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association South Division game on Friday evening.

THE BASICS

TOP 'DAWGS
= In addition to his third multi-goal game of the season, Thompson recorded a game-high six shots on goal and won 10 face-offs.

= Entmaa notched a season's best in saves, which was one shy of his career high of 39.

= Junior Trevor Boyd scored the Bulldogs' other goal.

= Sophomore Dino Balsamo went 11-for-15 in the face-off dot.

THE OPPOSITION
= Brett Wagner scored the Raiders' lone tally.

= Zach Woodman had 27 saves on 30 shots he faced.

= Garrett Gintoli was 11-for-22 on face-offs and had five shots.

= Matthew Romund led the MSOE offense with five shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead when Thompson and Boyd lit the red lamp just 2 minutes and 5 seconds apart, beginning with the former's first goal of the night at the 8:02 mark. Sophomore defenseman Joey Colatarci assisted on the Boyd's goal.

= Thompson made it 3-0 at 13:10 of the second period when he took a feed from junior defenseman Cory Dunn. Senior Kyle Brothers also assisted on the play.

= MSOE, however, spoiled Entmaa's shutout bid only 28 seconds later as Wagner scored on assists from Jerad Tafoya and James Ring.

= Entmaa turned aside all 12 shots he faced in the third period to keep MSOE off the scoreboard. The Bulldogs managed only five in the final stanza.

= Both teams scored one goal apiece in the second as MSOE held a 19-15 shooting advantage.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= With Adrian's two-goal victory coupled with top-ranked St. Norbert's shocking 5-4 loss at Northland, the Bulldogs moved into a first-place tie with the Green Knights atop the overall point standings in the NCHA. Adrian and SNC both sit at 10-1 with 20 points in conference games.

= Thompson now leads the team in goal scoring with 12. There's also a four-way tie for the AC lead with 20 points, led by Thompson (12+8), senior assistant Taylor McCloy (11+9), Brothers (5+15) and Dunn (2+18).

= Adrian is 32-5-2 all-time against MSOE, including 15-2 on the Raiders' home ice.

= During the team's six-game winning streak, Adrian is outscoring opponents 24-6.

= The Bulldogs are 12-0 this season when scoring the game's first goal and undefeated (13-0) when taking a lead into the third period.
