Adrian Football Holds Off Two-Time Defending MIAA Champion Trine in Senior Day Win, 34-26

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College football team celebrated Senior Day 2019 on Saturday with a 34-26 victory over the two-time defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion Trine Thunder on Saturday, using a balanced offensive attack on the ground and through the air.

THE BASICS
= Final Score: Adrian College 34, Trine University 26

= Location: Kapnick Field at Docking Stadium; Weather: Partly Cloudy, 34 degrees, Wind NE 15 mph

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs 5-4 overall, 4-2 MIAA; Trine Thunder 4-5 overall, 1-5 MIAA

TOP DAWGS
= Freshman Jerome Neal rushed for 96 yards on 24 attempts and two touchdowns to lead all student-athletes.

= Sophomore Clarence Madison caught 10 passes for 105 yards for season highs in both categories. The 10 receptions are also a career best.

= Freshman Dwight Mann spearheaded the 'Dogs-"D" with seven solo stops, followed by sophomore Brandon Kwiatkowski with five tackles (4 solo) and freshman Kevin Smitherman with five solo tackles.

THE OPPOSITION
= Seth Boggs led Trine in rushing with 67 yards on 13 carries.

= Jacob Chesney led Thunder receivers with three catches and 55 yards.

= Keysean Amison topped all defenders with nine tackles and 10 total.  

= Nicholas Funk averaged 46.3 yards over three punts, including a long of 58 yards and two inside the 20.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian led for most of the contest while also holding a definitive time of possession with 36 minutes and 54 seconds to Trine's 23:06.

= It was a low-scoring interesting affair in the first quarter. Adrian took a 3-0 lead on sophomore Cooper West's 26-yard field goal at the 9:43 mark before Lucas Garza nailed a 31-yarder of his own with 6:28 to go. Jake Gladieux sacked Adrian quarterback Jack Wurzer in the end zone to give the Thunder a safety and 5-3 lead with 3:36 remaining.  

= But in the second quarter and part of the third, the Bulldogs reeled off 17 unanswered points to take a 20-5 advantage at 10:43 showing on the clock in the third. West connected on a 36-yard field goal and Neal scored on TD runs of 1 and 3 yards.

= The teams alternated scoring plays for the rest of the game as the Bulldogs never trailed after falling behind 5-3. Dylan Dowling had TD runs of 1 and 12 yards and teammate Keysean Amison ran back a short kickoff 65 yards the other way for another score for the Thunder. For the Bulldogs, sophomore Trent Stone enjoyed 13-yard scamper into the end zone and sophomore quarterback Jack Wurzer and junior receiver Henry Wilson hooked up for a 32-yard pass play.

= Adrian was 47 percent (8 of 17) in third-down efficiency while Trine went only 27 percent (4 of 15). Adrian also had 26 first downs to 15 for the visitors.

= The Bulldog defense limited the Thunder offense to just 269 total yards.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= Adrian takes a 10-7 lead in the all-time series against Trine.
