Adrian Falls to Franklin College to Open Hanover Tourney

HANOVER, Ind. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team dropped its first contest of the Hanover Tournament to Franklin College on Friday evening.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Franklin 3, Adrian 1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17)

Location: Hanover, Ind. (Collier Arena – Hanover College)

Records: Franklin 7-3, Adrian 3-5

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs went on a four point run to open the match, as Madison Federmeyer posted two kills and paired with Korbyn Koemer for a block assist. Adrian never trailed in the opening set, leading by at least two points throughout. The winning three points came in a run on kills by Liz Susitko and Federmyer, with Federmeyer meeting with Alex Tobler for a block assist to earn the set point.

Despite trailing for a majority of the second stanza, the Bulldogs did own the lead for a series of two plays, from 5-4 to 6-6. The series saw points from a Katelyn Bergman, assist to Susitko and a service error by the Grizzlies. The bad guys did end up getting the upper hand as the board read 7-6 in their favor and they never looked back.

Set three was in favor of Franklin nearly the entire time time, as it opened up a quick 5-1 lead. Adrian's best attempt to take off with the lead came as they took a 13-12 advantage on a Koerner kill, two points followed. The Bulldogs owned another advantage, this time by three-points for a short period of time, before the Grizzlies mounted their comeback, eventually taking the set 25-20.

The final set was the least competitive in reference to the score, as Adrian fell by eight points. The shortest lead of the set was at scores 8-9 and 9-10 as AC was able to bring the set within one.

TOP DOGS

  • Junior Madison Federmeyer led the Bulldogs' defensive effort with three block assists. She also ranked second on the offensive end in kills with 11.
  • Alex Tobler had the most kills on the day (11) while also ranking second in digs (10). She added two assists to the stat sheet.
  • Grace Welch and Megan Prsa each posted 19 digs to tie for first in that category. Welch also had eight kills.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs remain in Franklin, Ind. as they are set to faceoff with Capital at 12 p.m on Saturday. They will then wrap up the tournament playing the hosting Hanover Panthers at 2 p.m.
