ADRIAN, Mich. - After eights days off, the Adrian women's volleyball team is back on the court with a trio of matches slated for this week. The season's final road-trip begins on Wednesday evening at conference-contender and nationally-ranked powerhouse, No. 4 Hope.
The Flying Dutchmen (17-2, 5-0 MIAA) saw their 13-game win-streak come to an end this past weekend with a five-set loss to the University of Chicago. During that stretch, Hope held its opponents to just six set wins, turning in nine straight-sweeps.
The conference-leading Dutchmen are led by the senior attacking duo of McKenna Otto and Ana Grunewald, who are each averaging over three kills per set. Furthermore, the pair rank third and fifth, respectively in the MIAA in total kills.
Hope also boasts two of the conference's top defensive athletes in Charlotte Brecht and Maggie Wehrmeyer. While the later of the two paces the league with 5.78 digs per set, Brecht sits atop the MIAA with her 1.06 blocks per set.
Adrian's Michigan-rival has dominated the all-time series between the two, and is actively riding a 21-match win-streak dating back to 2010.
Wednesday's action is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start time at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse.
Then, on Saturday, Adrian head coach
David Kwan returns to his former coaching gig when the Bulldogs travel to Defiance for the season's third tri-match.
The day begins at 3 p.m. for the black and gold when they take on Transylvania.
The Pioneers (13-10, 3-0 HCAC) also saw its most recent winning-streak snapped this past weekend, dropping a 3-0 bout to Otterbein.
Cate Scheper has been the primary offensive weapon for Transylvania, producing 284 kills en route to a team-high 303.5 points.
Sylvie Miller and Ava Beltsos lead the team defensively, working out 362 and 231 total digs, respectively.
After battling the Pioneers, the Bulldogs challenge the host, Yellow Jackets at 5 p.m.
Defiance (3-10, 1-1 HCAC) has lost four of its last five matches entering the week, and will travel to Manchester before returning home to host Saturday's tri-match.
Mackenzie Benham's 140 kills and 2.69 kills per set are both team highs, while Kendra Kline paces the 'Jackets with 199 assists.
Adrian (6-12, 2-2 MIAA) steps into the week rolling on a season-long two-game win-streak, both by ways of straight-set sweeps.
The locals sport the conference's sixth-highest attack-percentage at 0.157, highlighted by Ayden Cribb's 156, and
Mallory Dorow's 153 total kills. The pair are the only 'Dogs on the lineup who are averaging more than two kills per set.
Sophomore
Hailey Farrell actively ranks among the top dime droppers in the MIAA, boasting an 8.19 assists per set mark.
Fellow underclassmen
Mya Minjares is also modeling impressive numbers, currently competing with the second-best digs per set mark in the league at 5.22, trailing only Hope's Wehrmeyer.
Behind Minjares' efforts, the Bulldogs lead the MIAA in digs per set, averaging 17.43.
While live stats and video will be available for Wednesday's match at Hope, and Saturday's match versus Defiance, no links are currently posted for Adrian's dual with Transylvania. Any spectators traveling to Defiance will be required to a wear a mask regardless of their vacination status.
