ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College football team looked to move to 2-1 in MIAA play on Saturday against Alma College (5-2, 1-2 MIAA). The Bulldogs were successful coming away with a 36-21 victory over the scots to improve to 4-3 on the season.
The Adrian defense scored the first points of the game by recording a safety after a bobbled snap by Alma. On the team's first possession of the games,
Steven Moses ran in a 3-yard touchdown to lead 9-0. Later in the first quarter, Moses struck again with a 4-yard run to go up 16-0.
Alma went on to score back-to-back touchdowns to trail 16-14, but Adrian answered back with two touchdowns in the final three minutes of the half. Preston smith caught an 18-yard pass from
Jack Wurzer to record his second touchdown of the season. After an inteception from
Kyle Minder led to great field position, Wurzer found Smith again in the endzone to lead 29-14 at the break.
Alma scored the lone points in the third quarter on a 13-yard touchdown pass to take the score to 29-21. With two minutes to go in the game,
Malik Ray found the endzone on a 12-yard rush to seal the deal at 36-21.
Wurzer finished the game 17-for-23 with 202 yards passing and two touchdowns. Moses led the way on the ground with 172 rushing yards with a pair of scores, and Smith led the way recieving with a monsterous day of 11 receptions for 160 yards. Deandre Jennings finished the game with a team-high eight tackles followed by seven from
Brandon Kwiatkowski and seven from Minder.
Waides Ashmon helped on defense with an interception in the second half to go with two tackles for loss and a sack.
The Bulldogs have now scored on 23 of 28 trips to the red zone this season.
Adrian will return to action on Saturday, October 23 on the road at Hope College with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 PM.
