ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's hockey team opened its season at home on Friday night against the Lakers from Oswego State. The Bulldogs dropped the contest 2-1 as they started a comeback, but fell short in the final minute.
The Bulldogs and the Lakers battled it out holding each other scoreless in the first period. Adrian was faced with a 5-on-3 disadvantage, but held strong and came back to full strength. The scoring began in the second period as Megan Teachout from Oswego State broke the silence with a top shelf goal to grab a 1-0 lead.
Oswego State went on to take advantage of an Adrian bench minor for too many players on the ice, and scored to lead 2-0 on another Teachout goal. The Bulldogs pulled their goalie with 2:14 left to play in the game after calling a timeout. Adrian controlled the puck for the final minutes, but didn't find an opportunity until late. With 18 seconds left in the game,
Karmen Anderson picked up a rebound from
Emma Corbett to put Adrian on the board. The Bulldogs won the next faceoff, but couldn't record a final shot, and lost 2-1.
Denisa Jandova got the start in goal for Adrian and made 18 saves on the night. The Bulldogs totaled 32 shots led by six from
Karmen Anderson.
Jessica VonRuden controlled the faceoff circle by winning 17 of 25 faceoffs.
The Bulldogs will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 30 at 3:00 PM as they host Stevenson University.
