ADRIAN, Mich. -- After dropping the season opener on Friday night, the Adrian College women's hockey team (1-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHA) bounced back and defeated Stevenson University (0-2-0) on Saturday afternoon.
Une Bjelland recorded a hat trick for Adrian to lead the team to a 10-1 victory.
Bjelland got the scoring going early finding the twine six minutes into the game.
Annika Hanson recorded an assist as Adrian took a 1-0 lead. The scoring went quiet until the three minutes into the second period when
Jocelin Hudanish gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead on a power play goal. Twenty-four seconds later, the Bjelland picked off a pass and took it the length of the ice for an uassisted goal to lead 3-0.
Kaleigh Cadorette scored her first goal of the game on an assist from Bjelland. Stevenson got on the board in the second to take the score to 4-1.
Reaghan Pietrowski quickly responded by finding the back of the net on a pass from
Julia Barrett to lead 5-1. Barrett and
Maya Tupper recorded another assist shortly later on a goal from
Jessica VonRuden to go into the second intermission with a 6-1 lead.
The Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas in the third period which started with a quick goal from
Sydney Daversa.
Jocelin Hudanish picked up her second goal of the game followed by Cadorette's second goal of the game to lead 9-1. With 13 minutes to go in the game, Bjelland finished the hat trick with another unassisted goal which brought the score to 10-1.
Sophie Goldberg got the start in goal for Adrian and minded the net for the first two periods of play. Goldberg record 10 saves on the afternoon and allowed one goal. Freshman,
Gwen Bowler took over in the third and made five saves.
The Bulldogs will head on the road to face Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday, November 6 at 2:00 PM.
